I finally have an update for Hard Trigger.

It’s been a long road, but officially I can say that Hard Trigger will be released on August 28, 2018. I am super excited! Also…I’ve finished working with my cover artist, and the cover reveal will happen on July 12, 2018. My editor and I are also about to turn the corner on a final draft, so, if you’re a book blogger and you want an ARC so that you can be part of the book release action, check out this link: http://bit.ly/HardTriggerEVENTS

If you want to add Hard Trigger to your TBR on Goodreads, here is the link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40229951-hard-trigger

For all you loyal readers and newsletter subscribers, I have a little somethin’ special formulating, so stay tuned…

Here’s the back cover copy, to tantalize you a little…

“Your mother’s opiates are coming from Jose Herrera’s distribution network.” My pulse races as my stepfather speaks these words. Because taking on the Herreras also means taking on Diego.

Reckless, and hardened by a volatile past, Victoria does not see a future with Diego Herrera as a realistic option. As their childhood friendship ignites, they find themselves on opposite sides of a bloody feud between the two most powerful families in Mexico City. And she’s a Moreno now—brought up to be the secret weapon nobody suspected.

But Victoria can’t deny the attraction. Diego’s commanding muscles, the coarse, dark hair of his solid chest, that rugged scar above his sensuous lips…

Loyalty is in the eye of the beholder.

Enjoy what is left of your beautiful weekend, lovely people:)

    xoxoxox, Hannah

This novella has been an interesting lesson in why you probably shouldn’t try to turn a short story into a novella. Real life responsibilities getting in the way of art aside, I didn’t think that I was going to have this much heartburn over what seemed like a reasonable task when I first set off over a year ago.

Going to Palm Springs at the end of August for a week felt like a turning point. I’d finally figured out an organization to all the scenes that made sense and I’d evened out the tone of the novella and the voice of the main character, Victoria. These two aspects had plagued me for months, but suddenly the 115-degree-heat, dips in the pool, alone time away from work, and serenity of a beautiful desert oasis turned on that part of my brain that I needed most for this task.

I could’ve spent two more weeks in Palm Springs, for a variety of reasons, and gotten this milestone draft completed before my birthday, but alas, duties called and it would take me until mid-October to call this draft good enough to send to a handful of beta-readers and my editors.

Gearing up to get my hands dirty again this weekend with the start of another draft, I want to thank you all for continuing to support and follow my updates on social media even though they’ve been less than in previous years, and even though I’ve been M.I.A.  on my blog and with my newsletter for quite a while. Sometimes, you have to let go of one or two things to prioritize what you know really needs to get done. I want to thank my beta-readers for being awesome and giving me some thoughtful thumbs up/thumbs down feedback. And I want to thank my two, very trusty editors. You both continue to push my work to the next level; can’t imagine doing all of this without you.

Speaking of “all of this”, I have been thinking about when I can bring Hard Trigger to you all in paperback and ebook. As much as I thought this Christmas was a realistic schedule, I am starting to think early Spring…March-isch. Hopefully by next month I can have a firm release date…and a hot book cover for all you lovely people.

Stay true to the stuff that keeps you energized, xoxoxo, Hannah:)

So, a funny thing happened on the way to writing a short story for an anthology with a late December, 2015 deadline…I missed the deadline and decided to turn the short story into a novella. Actually a lot of things, some funny and some not so, have happened over the last six months, but I refuse to digress.

Reminiscent of my naiveté when I started writing The Need (this will be a quick diversion because it’s already a screenplay and then I can go back to working on my Sex, Life, & Hannah series that I have been trying to finish since 2013), I thought that this story was going to be a good one-month exercise in writing something not complicated. If it got into the anthology, yay for me (new experience), if not, I could use it as a fun teaser to some future book, or a freebie for people signing up to my newsletter.

Six months later…I really hate not finishing a project and I am really bad at multi-tasking, i.e. I should either write faster or simultaneously be able to work on several manuscripts at the same time, but alas, my brain does not work that way, nor do I believe in scolding myself for real life sometimes getting in the way of my fantasy life. One day I will meet my goal of writing and publishing one book a year. #goals

Hard Trigger. What do you think of that title? This story literally started as something completely different in my head, morphed partially into a protagonist I had created while in a UCLA screenwriting class in 2000, and keeps taking a sharp turn every time I think I have it all figured out.

I can’t quite yet articulate the main plot of the story. I don’t even have a good log line yet. Luckily there was a log line refresher at my last LARA meeting, and it was also part of this pretty good writing seminar that I took this past Sunday. All I will say for now is that the protagonist is a badass bitch treading on shaky illegal activities for a living and mourning the loss of her lover. She’s legitimately trying to set the course of her world right by doing some illicit things, and keeping her emotions at bay. She believes the antagonist is her new lover until she realizes they both have the same goal. #goals

Mind you, I still have 10,000 words to draft to get to novella status, but stay tuned, lovers. This is going to be a good one.
